The Balkans are the one corner of Europe where even EU residents pay roaming. One regional eSIM fixes that for 7 countries — here is how to plan it.
Why your EU plan stops working
Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo are outside the EU roam-like-at-home zone. Daily passes from EU carriers often cost several euros a day there, so a week in Belgrade can cost more than the flight.
What the Balkans plan covers
7 countries on one eSIM: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. The phone switches partner networks at each border automatically.
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are not in this plan; each has its own local plan.
Travelling on into the EU or Türkiye? The Europe + Balkans & Türkiye plan covers Serbia and North Macedonia too, but not Albania and Montenegro.
Coverage reality
Cities and the coast have solid coverage on partner networks such as A1, Telenor, mts, m:tel and One Albania. Durmitor, the Tara canyon and the Albanian Alps have gaps on every carrier — download offline maps for mountain days.
Road-trip budgeting
Maps, messaging, photos and the occasional Google Translate: 400–600 MB a day. Ten days across three countries needs about 5–6 GB, so take 10 GB if you also video-call home.
Local plan or regional?
Staying only in Serbia for two weeks? The Serbia plan is about 34% cheaper than the Balkans plan on 10 GB (€20.90 against €31.90). Crossing even one border makes a regional plan the easier choice — check your route with the Compare tool.
